About Us

Independent and rooted in the charity sector

We are an independent charity and operate on a not-for-profit basis. With our roots in the Manchester charity sector, we draw strength from the city’s cooperative spirit and diverse communities.

What We Do

Our vision and values

Core values and a strong vision for philanthropy underpin our work. Respect for communities and diversity are central to our work. Done well, philanthropy really can make the world a better place.

The Impact We're Having

Sightsavers are grateful for the support The Charity Service provided us through one of their Donor Advised Funds. With your support, we have been able to protect and save the sight of many marginalised people.

The Booth Centre helps hundreds of people affected by homelessness every year by supporting people to move forward in their lives. Funding from one of The Charity Service’s Greater Manchester funds helped us to weather the challenges of the covid pandemic and continue to run ongoing activities. We appreciate the open, friendly and professional communication we receive from The Charity Service and are proud to count them as a valued partner.

The Charity Service provided the Soil Association with funding through one of its Donor Advised Funds. The grant supports of our policy and influencing work on food and farming systems, which have a critical role to play in stabilising climate change, reversing the loss of soils and wildlife, and keeping us healthy.

Ethical Investment

Our Donor Advised Fund account holders are typically long-term donors. We invest their money to achieve tax-free growth, so that more funds are available to grant to charities. We always place donor funds with ethical banking and investment firms, and prioritise environmental, social and governance issues.

I like the fact that The Charity Service uses an ethical bank and investment fund manager. It’s important that the funds I’ve set aside for long-term charitable giving are invested in a responsible way, and are making a positive difference in the world.
