What is Wellbeing Dominoes?
Wellbeing Dominoes is a user developed resource, the development was funded by Heywood Middleton and Rochdale, Clinical Commissioning Group.
The resource is rooted in mindfulness and connects with the 5 Ways to Wellbeing. Wellbeing Dominoes is designed to be used within groups over a fexible number of weeks, using creativity as a tool to support and develop mental wellbeing.
We can evidence that ‘playing’ Wellbeing Dominoes within a group, over 8 weeks, increases mental wellbeing, confidence, social interaction and networks and raises self esteem.
Wellbeing Dominoes is a flexible resource that would benefit groups of adults with mild to moderate mental health issues, volunteer groups, young people, carers groups and recovery groups.
Why do I need training to use the resource?
No specialist creative skills or equipment is needed to use Wellbeing Dominoes but the use of the tool must be facilitated by a trained facilitator. The groups using Wellbeing Dominoes are likely to have a degree of vulnerability. The game development was supported and reviewed by Arts Therapists and it is important that considerations such as providing a safe and confidential environment, setting clear bounderies and focus on process rather than outcomes are understood by Wellbeing Dominoes facilitators.
The training also provides an opportunity to experience the resource through interactive ‘play’ and discuss with other facilitators/therapist how the resource could be used within your group. You will be shown past creative work made during Wellbeing Dominoes and explore how the resource was developed. Alongside this you will be able to speak to the Artist, Art Therapist and Project Coordinator, who developed this game and discuss how to tailor Wellbeing Dominoes to be used within your group.
Finally we will provide you with a framework for collecting evidence about the effectivness of Wellbeing Dominoes in increasing Mental Wellbeing.
